Fluval Stratum is a mineral-rich substrate for freshwater aquariums, which is suitable for both pure plant aquariums and shrimp tanks. It originates from the hills of the Aso volcano in Japan and contains many different minerals necessary for plant growth.
The substrate promotes plant growth by making the important nutrients available directly at the plant roots. In addition, its non-compacted, porous grains provide beneficial bacteria with a large area to colonise. Thereby, the substrate indirectly contributes to an improved biological quality of the aquarium water.
Due to its properties, Fluval Stratum slightly lowers the pH-value of the water, making it ideal for the use with most plant and tropical fish species as well as shrimp.
The dark brown substrate does not colour the aquarium water but even helps to reduce organic colouration – such as from driftwood – thanks to its porous structure. Fluval Stratum is available in three different container sizes.
